Bust out those cameras (both cell phone and otherwise) Chuck fans! We’re taking the #NotANielsenFamily campaign to the next level. On Monday, April 18th, Chuck fans sent out thousands of tweets to advertisers who ran commercials during our favorite show. The team here at We Give A Chuck has decided to continue with this campaign until the season ends. So meet us on Twitter every Monday starting at 8pm EST. For more information click HERE. But why stop there? Let’s prove to the advertisers that not only are we seeing their commercials, we’re buying their products or visiting their stores. A Nielsen family can’t show them that, but thanks to the power of social media WE CAN! A lot of fans already purchase or use these products as part of our daily lives. If not, then we might be willing to now. When we’re grabbing sodas for lunch, many of us will happily buy Pepsi or Diet Pepsi because they responded to our tweets. And we want to make sure Pepsi knows that. So here’s the plan.

Each week we will provide you with a list of twitter handles for advertisers who aired commercials during Chuck. That list can be found HERE. If you have purchased, or are willing to purchase, items from them or are simply dropping by their businesses (taking a trip and need a shuttle?), go ahead and let them know.

  • Step 1: Buy the item or visit the location (ie Toys R Us or, hey, maybe even a car dealership if you’re in the mood for a test drive!).
  • Step 2: Use that convenient little cell phone camera you’re always carrying around to take a snapshot of the product. (For those of us with lousy phone cameras, we’ll have to make do with our point and shoots at home!). You can choose to be in the shot (Chuck attire optional!) or not.
  • Step 3: Attach that pic to a tweet to the advertiser, making sure to include mentions of @NBC, #Chuck and our favorite tag, #NotANielsenFamily

Examples

@Dove_Chocolate Bought this b/c I saw your ad on #NBC’s #Chuck (photo link) Thanks for the support! #NotANielsenFamily

@ToysRUs Bought this at your store b/c I saw your ad on #NBC’s #Chuck (photo link) Thanks for the support! #NotANielsenFamily

@SamsungTweets Saw your ad on @NBC’s #Chuck which I was watching on my Samsung TV! (photo link) Thanks for the support! #NotANielsenFamily

  • Step 4: If you’re willing, please e-mail the pic to us so we can include it on our page or on twitter.
  • Step 5: Join us the following Monday for another fun and lively round of #NotANielsenFamily tweeting!

So what do you say #Chuck fans? Many of us are constantly tweeting pictures from our phones anyway. So why not take a shot of the Stouffers meal we’re eating for dinner and use that to help Chuck? Nothing says “we are watching your ads!” better than actually buying the product that’s being advertised. And believe us when we tell you that the advertisers can make a difference. They’re the ones paying NBC to air our show, after all.

And now one more note to the fans. We’ve all seen the comments on the internet. Bloggers, critics, people on twitter, they’re all pointing to our terrible ratings and predicting imminent doom. Let’s make one thing clear: our ratings are not great. And based solely on that one number that comes out Tuesday morning, Chuck is in trouble. We all know that, yes even those of us who are urging you to fight.

But here’s the thing. At some point the Nielsen ratings system will have to change. There are too many factors it does not take into account, including social media. We’re proving that right now. We are challenging the system in the hope that some time soon, people without little boxes attached to their TVs can be counted as well. Will our fight help Chuck? Nobody knows, but the team here at We Give A Chuck is itching to find out. We hope you are too!

So join us! Take a stand against the system you love to hate every Tuesday. Because you never know what can happen! Just because we are #NotANielsenFamily, doesn’t mean we can’t be heard!
